February 2012 Doula of the Month. Chicago Volunteer Doulas
Becoming a certified DONA (Doulas of North America) Birth Doula was a natural step in my life progression. I have been a Massage Therapist for 20 years specializing in Pregnancy, Ashiatsu, and Massage for people living with cancer among other techniques. During 15 years I have given Rio Abierto body movement classes, a technique I learned in my native country of Argentina which is popular in South America, and Eastern and Western Europe. This practice gave me a strong knowledge of relaxation, visualization and body balance techniques that I use in helping moms to have a smooth and fear-free labor. I have also guided healing stress retreats in nature, raised my family, and cared for others in need.
My caregiver heart told me that I wanted to work for life. Life did I say? Then… what could be better than serving mothers and babies? Click here to see pictures of "my" babies.
I am honored and humbled to assist women and their partners during their sacred journey of birth helping them to have the experience that they want without criticism or judgments. I actively listen and care about visions, fears and questions. Always present in my work is my deep belief in the ability of women to access their inner strength and grace during this amazing time. I am also a Reiki practitioner and am happy to bring that healing, relaxing touch to moms pre or postpartum.
I am open to all childbirth techniques, religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, and spiritual practices. Committed to providing compassionate care to married, single moms and same-sex couples as well as surrogate moms.
I have been trained as Postpartum Doula by DONA (Doulas of North America). With great responsibility and care I strive to provide new families with all the support they need for a bright start.
I am a CAPPA (Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association) trained childbirth educator since 2010.
I am a Certified Educator of Infant Massage with Infant Massage USA. I teach parents how to massage their babies to relax them, stimulate them, help relieve gas and colic and promote bonding and attachment. I am delighted and thrilled to see how babies and parents enjoy this wonderful bond that no other interaction can match.
I also speak Spanish and Portuguese. I am fascinated by diversity and multiculturalism. I am a mother, a grandmother, a world traveler, a lover of the arts, a reader, a dancer and a friend of many.
