"Doula" is a Greek word meaning woman servant. Today, trained professional labor assistants are called Doulas. As a Doula, I am trained and experienced in providing emotional, informational and physical support to women and their partners during labor and birth.
What is the advantage of having a Doula assisting you?
Having the right support person during your birth is a critical factor of your childbirth experience, and in some cases, it can mean the difference between a good birth experience and a traumatic one.
Having a female labor support doula assisting your birth can decrease the length of labor, the severity of perceived pain, the need for anesthesia or analgesia and the use of medical interventions, increase maternal-infant attachment and can help prevent cesarean section. Mothers report more positive birth experiences when attended by a Doula.
